What is digital television?
With analogue television, the signal is often subject to interference. The signal of digital television is less susceptible to interference and this means image and sound quality are much higher. In addition, a digital signal can be compressed and a single frequency can have up to 8 or 10 channels instead of just one. What's more, digital television also offers extra features such as an electronic programme guide, a choice of audio version, parental control related to the description of the programme, etc. With certain decoder models, you can record programmes on the hard disk.
You still have access to analogue television via a coaxial connection. To receive digital television, you must have a digital recorder and a smartcard.
You can choose from:- Voocorder Decoder recorder (HD)
- S9 Decoder (grey) for purchase
- BeTV decoder (black) included in the BeTV subscription
- Cable Tuner for receiving old analogue channels only.
The decoder converts the digital signals to modified signals if your television does not have a digital connection (HDMI).

High definition television
High definition television (HD) is an extension of digital television.
Pictures in standard definition (SD) only have 576 lines, while HD-ready images have 720 lines and full-HD 1080 lines. This additional information results in an image with richer and brighter details, and higher contrast...
So don't confuse digital with High Definition. Digital refers to the type of data transfer with is used for the pictures, while HD has to do with the definition of the images in question.
If you switch to high-definition television, you maintain the benefits of digital (more channels, TV Guide, video on-demand, etc.) but with higher quality of picture and sound.

The VOOcorder offers a practical solution, as the recordings are made directly on the hard disk integrated in the decoder. Thanks to the double tuner it is also possible to record a programme or watch another one.
On the other hand it is not possible to record a video on demand programme (VOO catalogue).

What is the difference between DVI, HDMI and component?
The terms DVI and HDMI refer to a digital connection while component refers to analogue.
HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface ) manages picture and sound and the HDCP protection system.
DVI (Digital Video Interface) only handles video. Two additional cables are required for the audio.
Component: 3 cables (red, green and blue) and the analogue video signal. The audio signal also requires 2 cables. This is the best video signal for analogue. The video is sent via 3 separate signals called Y, Pb, Pr (or YUV or YCbCr) It does not include HDCP.
Component video can transfer signals in 576i, 576p, 720p, 1080i. -
